Events at Mar Lodge

The Mar Lodge Estate (29,380 ha, 72,598 a) is part of the core area of the Cairngorm mountains, internationally recognised as the most important nature conservation landscape in the British Isles. It is located at the heart of the new Cairngorms National Park. The estate contains four of the five highest mountains in the UK. It includes the upper watershed of the River Dee and remnant Caledonian pine forest of national importance. Some 7,080 ha (17,500 a) lie within the Cairngorms National Nature Reserve. Large parts of the estate are designated as Sites of Special Scientific Interest and the majority of it is within National Scenic Areas.

The area contains some of the most wonderful walks and stunning scenery and the centrepiece of the Estate is the fascinating Mar Lodge with its unique ballroom.

Mar Lodge is owned by the National Trust for Scotland who throughout the summer arrange for various events for the benefit of visitors. The events planned for 2008 are listed below.

Easy Walk This short walk in the beautiful Glen Quoich will explore the
history of the pine woodlands on Mar Lodge, including the archaeological evidence.

Sun. 25th May Mar Lodge Estate 10.30am - 3.30pm Carn na Criche and Carn na Drochaide
Mountain / Day A gradual climb by path and rough moorland to the summit of
Carn na Criche, then on to the Corbett of Carn na Drochaide,
high above Glen Quoich.

Mid Level An evening in the company of one of the Trust's stalkers. A
good time of day for wildlife, and an opportunity to see red deer
and hear about the stalker’s work on this highland estate.
