The Deeside and Donside Development Project part 2

Upper Deeside and Upper Donside together form west Aberdeenshire and the easter part of the Cairngorms National Park. Because the main A9 provides easy access to the western side of the park, the eastern side is much less developed. Here the centres of population are smaller and further apart. Nonetheless it contains some of the most beautiful countryside in Scotland and central to the area is the Royal castle of Balmoral.

The Deeside and Donside Development project (DDDP) was established to assist communities develop enterprises which are both viable and sustainable. On this page we provide information about some of the woek done so far.

Broadband Issues
The project has submitted four applications to the Cairngorms Leader Local Action Group (LAG) for inclusion in a strategic bid to the Scottish Government. The first phase applications were successful and now await approval by the Scottish Government.
Broadband is taken for granted in the larger towns and cities in Scotland but in many rural locations there is only a poor or in some cases non-existent service.

This project has identified the areas where broadband is needed and built the case to put to the Scottish Government for funding assistance.

Childcare Facilities
Please contact DDDP to discuss childcare provision in your area. A number of initiatives in Grampian can be tapped into to provide support in your area.

Braemar Community Limited
The project has assisted Braemar Community Limited to secure funding for a business plan and community consultation exercise which will realise Braemar Castle as a sustainable visitors attraction, benefitting the local business and the community.

Dalmochie Project
The project has assisted the Ballater Historic Forestry Project association prepare applications for funding the Dalmochie feasibility study. This study will outline the options available for the site and how it could be managed as a benefit to visitors and community alike.
