K&D Befriending is a local registered charity established in 1996 to provide volunteer befrienders to socially isolated or lonely older people (over 55) who are living independently or with some support in the community. Volunteers visit their client regularly and undertake activities such as a home visit, trip out to local place of interest or to access local community facilities, or share hobbies and interests. Twice a year social events are organised to which all befrienders and clients are invited. K&DB matches volunteers carefully, on a one to one basis, with a view to an established supported friendship. Volunteers need no special qualification and are given introductory training. They are required to undergo a Disclosure Scotland Criminal record check. There
is an open referral system for clients so people can refer themselves
or be referred by family or through agencies such as social services or
the NHS. |
