A sample of what's in store On Walk 5, tread the ground where the McGregor men gathered to prepare for the Battle of Culloden. Walk 3b leads you to “The Field of two Goats” at Auchtavan. Walk 4 takes you to an ancient Clan Donald Estate with an ancient Mausoleum. Find the remains of an ancient village and Smithy on Walk 3a. The well known Seven Bridges walk is also included, together with a lovely stroll along the old railway line, taking in a former settlement at Torphantrick, just over the bridge at CambusO’May on Walk 2.
Thanks: The project was managed by Ballater (RD) Ltd. It was funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund, Aberdeenshire Council, Scottish Natural Heritage, the former Cairngorms Partnership and Scottish Enterprise to whom BRD is most grateful. The co-operation of Landowners and Farmers has also been most appreciated. The Upper Deeside Access Trust have installed new gates, waymarkers and interpretive panels as part of the project. The beautiful sketches and illustrations for the book and brochure were prepared by Alan Baldwin Creative Design Consultants. But remember to take care. Your visit to Royal Deeside would not be complete without discovering this local heritage but always be prepared with suitable clothing and stout footwear. Take care when walking on main roads. Keep your dog under close control and don’t light fires. Haste ye back. |
