Hogmanay 2008: Curlers take advantage of the icy conditions to enjoy a session of outdoor curling. Note the low angle of the sun. The brooms are used to sweep the ice ahead of the incoming (curling) stone. The stones are heavier than those used at indoor rinks because the ice surface is less even.
Same time same place : I have turned to take a picture of the sun setting over the golf course. The course is covered by a layer of frost.
Boules was adopted by some Ballater residents as an alternative for when the weather is not cold enough for curling
