Father was a farm overseer. John Middleton had seven sons in the forces, Charles, Archibald, Lewis, James, Ernest, John and Alexander. Three were killed. Previously lived Huntly Cottages. The surviving sons, who also lived in Canada, often came back to Aboyne on holiday. When the bar at the Huntly Arms Hotel closed at 9 pm they would wend their way home to Alberta singing the Red River Valley. |

John, the father, went to Canada a number of times to visit his sons and spoke highly of Canada, to such an extent that the young lads in Aboyne nicknamed him “Medicine Hat”. |
